Who I Want To Be

My sister sent me this poem today and I altered it slightly to set to music. She and her husband have been going through a lot of challenges and new experiences lately. So have many other members of my immediate and extended family. It’s one of those times… So this song is dedicated to all of them. It’s a folksy melody (think ‘How Can I Keep From Singing’ and ‘Come Thou Fount’) that I’ll eventually arrange for guitar and strings, but for now I’ll post a rough…

I trust in God to deliver me,
If I am still, then I will see.
His hands the ones that take my life,
As I am willing, there is no strife.

He makes of all my day to day,
a cleansing wind to brush away
the dross and burdens that I bear
Every moment says He’s there

Challenges,
have become,
what I need,
to become
who He is
and who
I want to be.

Thank you, Lord, for delivering me.

Allison,
Thanks for this…you are so beautiful in every way. I think as I go through my own trials an sometimes feel like I am being swallowed up by them, I always, always, always, feel the Lord’s hand upon me…reaching out, rescuing me. That is what your song reminded me of…so thank you.

I love you!
