a little behind

[20-second delay at beginning]

a little behind the beat
a meeting I could not meet
a deadline I couldn’t eat
a little behind

a little behind the ball
what with life and living and all
it’s not that I’m trying to stall
just a little behind

so what the heck
alright, you’re already gone
can anything else go wrong?
life can wait

the sticker that never stuck
a little chunk of good bad luck
bright ideas gone amuck
a little behind

the feather that didn’t float
a chip that never fell
my little piggy going broke
a little behind

so what the heck
alright, you’re already gone
can anything else go wrong?
life can wait

a little behind the ball
what with life and living and all
it’s not that I’m trying to stall
just a little behind

so what the heck
alright, you’re already gone
can anything else go wrong?
life can wait

As the shadows fall

As the shadows fall,
turn our thoughts and minds to thee.
Help us now to strive for Peace,
and find our rest in thee.

Father, please watch over us
as the evening round us flows.
Lord, accept our supplications
and us in our repose.

-

Abide with me!
fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens.
Lord, with me abide!

When other helpers
fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh,
abide with me.

time to let go

What do you do
with the things that you lost
they are lost now
don’t have them
but heavy still hang there
more weight than its worth

What do you say
to the people that haunt you
the places they left you
don’t have them
but silently sing there
more weight than it’s worth

yes I know
you can go through the motions
they’ll say that you’re fine
that you just need more time
but the motions they hurt
and I know
you can go to those places
in hopes of recovering traces
that life was okay

but what do you do
with the faces you lost
they are lost now
but clearly still billow
they’re flags in the wind

and what do you say
to the memories you hold them
still have them
and where is their gallery
place in my mind

What will I tell
to that face in the mirror
that seems to be aging
more quickly now
quickly now
hide it they’re calling your name

And I know
you can go through the motions
they’ll say that you’re fine
that you just needed time
to give up the hurt
and I know
you can go to those places
recovering traces
of moments that told you
that life was okay

But today, today is a skeleton
stuck in the closet of past summer joy
and I can’t go on fixing myself to believe
that there’s not anymore
time to let go
time to let go…

But today, today is a skeleton
stuck in the closet of past summer joy
and I can’t go on fixing myself to believe
that there’s not anymore
time to let go
